cat containment fence system

A Modular and Flexible Cat Containment Fencing System

Purrfect Fence is designed to easily secure a perimeter of cat-proof fencing. It can be configured to different sizes to make your system as spacious as you would like. You can also use freestanding cat fence segments together with cat-proofed areas of an existing fence using an Existing Fence Conversion System Kit.

Why Purrfect Fence is the Most Secure Cat Fence Available

The secret is in the patented Cat-Proofer™ extender arms, which enable the entire upper section of the fence to pivot. If a cat does climb to the top of the fence, the extender arms will pivot downward under their weight. The sensation causes cats to naturally let go of the fence, dropping safely back to the ground.

A Tough Cat Fence Built to Last

All of the materials and components used with our Freestanding Fence system were selected for a specific purpose to work together and create a long-lasting fence barrier.

The posts, arms, and all other metal components are made with galvanized or stainless steel. All black metal components are also powder-coated for more durability outdoors. The bottom portion of the fence is made with galvanized welded wire that serves as a "chew guard" and “dig guard” which keeps cats from digging or chewing their way out, and it keeps other unwanted critters from getting in. The black coating on the wire mesh is UV stabilized with carbon black and chemical UV inhibitors to slow the rate the fence fades over the years in sunlight.

The upper portion of the fence material is made of durable polypropylene mesh that is heavy-duty but remains flexible. This mesh has a breaking strength of around 600 lbs and has been proven difficult for cats to climb - acting as the first line of defense in escape prevention! Like the coating on the welded wire, our poly mesh is also UV stabilized for longevity outdoors.

We’ve done dozens of head-to-head tests with competing cat fences and their materials to test their strength, durability, and longevity. That includes a test submerging the fences in a saltwater brine for weeks on end. We can definitively say that Purrfect Fence is the strongest and most durable cat containment fence available.

Planning Your Cat Fence

A 100-foot kit made into a square would be approximately 24' x 24' (576 square feet) but most customers use the back of their house as a "side" allowing a kit to make a larger overall enclosure and easier access for the cats. One example of a 100-foot kit enclosure off the back of a house would be 28' x 40' (28' out from the house - over 40' and back 28') making an enclosure that is 1,120 square feet. A 200 ft kit enclosure off the back of a house could be 64' x 64' (64' out from the house - over 64' and back 64') making an enclosure that is 4,096 square feet. We can assist you with outfitting any size yard!

Our planning engineers can help you pick the best cat containment fence based on your yard’s size, cat’s needs, and financial requirements. Check out our sample layouts to help you get an idea of what you’re looking for. While most pet parents can utilize a freestanding kit, others may require fence customization. When you have an idea of the structure type you’re interested in, scroll back up to order your fence, or get expert help by filling out a design form. This document gives us the ability to evaluate your situation and provide you with a plan and an estimate.

If the setup you’re interested in requires more components or posts, you can always purchase extras. Also, don’t forget to add a gate or two, especially if your mower needs an outlet into the freestanding cat fence.

Are These Enclosures Difficult To Set Up?

We not only keep cats in mind when creating these fences; we also consider the pet parents, which is why we’ve created systems that the average person can install. The cat containment fence setup is straightforward and only requires a power drill, offset or straight snips, and a sledgehammer, tools that most people already have. Depending on the size, most fences can be assembled and installed over a weekend by the average handy person, or with help from a local handyman.

While we provide you with detailed written instructions and helpful videos, our knowledgeable staff members are also available to guide you in the right direction. If you come across anything confusing or unexpected, please reach out!

*Fasteners for holding hardware to building/home are not included. Fasteners should be chosen based on the type of material covering the building (wood screw, masonry screw, etc.)

-As the table above shows, a 50-foot kit comes with 50 feet of fencing material, not 60 feet.  A 150-foot kit comes with 150 feet of fencing material. It is advised that you consider ordering approximately 10% or more than you need to allow for cut pieces and minor errors in installation.

-The above table applies to orders placed after 12/26/19.

Our freestanding system is designed to be installed by the average handy homeowner. Below you will find links to instructions as well as a short video describing the process.

Reference "What's Included." If your layout includes multiple turns or very specific side lengths, you may need additional posts (see product 2-Post Kit) above and beyond what is provided in the kits. To determine if you need more posts use these rules:

  1. Every end and corner/turn needs a post.
  2. Every change in grade (up/down) needs a post.
  3. Measure between the posts that need to be in specific locations (see rules 1&2) and divide by 14' (maximum post spacing).

If the total posts you need is more than 8 x's the number of kits you are buying you need that many more posts.

The cat fence is a nice addition for my cats to stay safe but still be able to explore outdoors. We moved and it has a been a big transition from free range on 2+ acres to a city backyard. Overall easy to set up, needed some tightening . Watch the videos for good tips and helpful details

Urban deck oasis

I modified the freestanding purrfect fence for the deck off my townhouse. The deck is one story above ground so I used flagpole holders to hold the posts. This made the catio taller so I put the plastic mesh at the top and “sewed” it to the wire mesh. I threaded bamboo rods through the wire to make it harder for the cats to lift up. Then I secured the bottom and the poles to the deck railings. It is great so far! My old ladies were indoor-outdoor at their previous home, so they are loving this secure patch of the outdoor life.

Makes me smile

My cats now have an enclosure large enough all four of them can lounge around outdoors and be cats. No more fighting over indoor space, and the heavy duty gate gives me access to the rest of the garden. I have been proudly showing off the fence to anyone polite enough to listen, especially since I installed it myself (and I'm a 60 year old woman), with help from a tall person so I spent less time on the ladder. This is the second time I've purchased this fencing and I would never use anything else to keep my cats safe outdoors.

Purrfect fence is perfect!

I installed 150’ of this fence with two teenagers. If I can figure it out, anyone can! My cats love it.

I absolutely love it!

This fence had been a dream come true for my cats and me! The installation was easier than I thought it would be and it has been very durable. I’ve had it two months and it survived a storm with 75 mph straight line winds and sticks falling on it. It has been so enjoyable to sit outside and enjoy my backyard with my babies who are also very much enjoying being outside.

Wonderful investment!

Prior setting up the fence in our backyard, we had a small screened in catio just on the deck. Our cats loved being outside, but it was hard for us to be outside with them. If we were out in the yard, they'd be constantly meowing at us to let them join them and getting in and out of the catio ourselves was awkward and cramped.

Now that our fence is setup, they have access to most of our backyard. The cats can roam into the grass, laze on the deck, or join us on our porch swing. They love sunbathing out there, sniffing the plants, and stalking birds. One of our more anxious cats is way more calm now that she has room to roam. It's wonderful to watch them have their zoomies in the grass, or pouncing on moths, and I spend way more time outside than I ever did before setting it up. Coming home from work, one or two of them will greet me ready to be pet. I feel like we have dramatically increased their quality of life and mental enrichment.

Keeps the felids in the yard!

I purchased this system to keep three newly taken in feral kitties in my yard, and it works! I also like the way the fence looks - the black coloring matches my black vinyl chain link and nicely frames the trees and plants in the yard. I gave the product 4 stars because I would have liked the system to come with enough support rods to place them every 10 feet rather than 14 feet for better support.
